By land, how do you get into Turkey?

Most visitors to Turkey arrive by air, but tens of thousands of people also arrive by land. There are numerous overland entry points into the country because it is bordered by eight other countries.

Both the Sarp and Türkgözü border crossing points allow visitors to arrive on foot and are staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Routing Through the Iranian-Turkish Border

Additional Turkish land borders are currently closed to civilian tourists and cannot be used as a point of entry.
There are diplomatic as well as security considerations at play here.
As a result, these routes should be avoided at this time.

The Syrian-Turkish border is currently closed to non-military tourists as a result of ongoing military conflict.
At the time of this writing, travelers from Syria should avoid traveling to Turkey.

Land borders between Iraq and Turkey are currently closed because of ongoing security concerns in Iraq.
It is not advisable to enter the country through one of Iraq’s border crossing points due to the country’s remote location.
